Disney+ won't play or shows an error code — how do I troubleshoot?

Most playback failures are fixed by a restart, a network switch, or a fresh sign-in. Start with the error code if you have one, then run the general checklist below.

The three most common error codes

  • Error 83 — a catch-all covering device compatibility, account status, or network hiccups. Fully close the Disney+ app and restart your device first; that clears the majority of 83s. If it persists across devices, the account side may need a look.
  • Error 42 — a connection timeout. Test your internet speed, restart your router, and avoid VPN-like tools that add latency. Streaming needs a steady connection, not just a fast peak.
  • Error 73 — a region restriction: Disney+ thinks your connection is exiting in an unsupported location. Check what network you're on (corporate networks, proxies, and VPN endpoints are common culprits) and switch to a connection that egresses in a supported country.

General troubleshooting checklist

Work through these in order — stop as soon as playback returns:

  1. Update the Disney+ app to the latest version from your device's app store.
  2. Clear the app cache (Android/TV: app settings → storage → clear cache; elsewhere, reinstalling has the same effect).
  3. Switch networks — flip between Wi-Fi and cellular, or try another Wi-Fi network, to isolate a network-side problem.
  4. Sign out and back in, then reselect your assigned profile.
  5. Try another device — if a phone plays fine while the TV doesn't, the issue is that device, not the account.

If it looks like a login problem instead

"Session expired" or repeated bounce-backs to the login screen usually mean the credentials changed — re-copy the current email and password from your FoxVIP order before anything else.

If this doesn't resolve it, contact FoxVIP live support with your order number.
