【Gemini Pro】Activity history and privacy on a shared Gemini account
Who can see your Gemini chats on a shared account, where the Gemini Apps Activity switch lives and what turning it off does, plus practical privacy habits.
Activity history and privacy on a shared Gemini account
On a shared account, everyone who signs in can see each other's chat titles and contents in the left sidebar. That's how Google accounts work, not a security problem. Treat the account like a public computer.
What's visible to others
- The Recent chat list in Gemini's left sidebar is visible to anyone signed in to the account.
- The Gemini Apps Activity log at myactivity.google.com is account-wide too, so any user can browse it.
- Seeing unfamiliar chats simply means other customers are using the account normally — it doesn't mean the account was hijacked.
The Gemini Apps Activity switch
Open myactivity.google.com/product/gemini — the on/off control for Gemini Apps Activity sits at the top of the page.
- When it's off, new chats stop being saved to the activity log (Google still keeps them for up to 72 hours to run the service).
- Important: this switch is account-level. Turning it off affects every user sharing the account and disables features that rely on history, such as personalized replies. Don't change it on your own — ask support first if you really need to.
Practical privacy habits
- Never type names, phone numbers, addresses, ID numbers, or card details into chats.
- If a chat contains anything personal, delete it from the sidebar as soon as you're done.
- Don't use this account for "Sign in with Google" on other websites or apps.
