Tips for using your Google Account safely

The two things a freshly delivered Google Account tolerates worst are a constantly changing IP and heavy activity on day one. Follow two principles — keep the IP stable, ramp up gradually — and the account will stay healthy for the long run.

IP and network environment

1. Stick to one sign-in environment. Whatever network you used for the first sign-in becomes the account's home base. Google remembers the region and device fingerprint; the steadier the environment, the more the account is trusted.
2. Don't bounce between regions. Hong Kong today, the US tomorrow, Japan the day after — that pattern is the fastest route to phone-verification prompts and temporary locks. If you rely on a network tool, pick one node and keep it.

Pacing for the first two weeks

Ongoing maintenance

1. Sign in at least occasionally — long-dormant accounts lose standing.
2. Once 2-Step Verification is on, store the backup codes somewhere safe.
3. Periodically review sign-in activity on the "Security" page at myaccount.google.com; remove unfamiliar devices and change the password immediately if you find any.
