Yes — every conversation on the account is visible to all its users. Use Temporary Chat or delete after use, and keep truly sensitive topics off shared accounts entirely.
Can other people see my chat history on a shared account?
Yes. ChatGPT history belongs to the account, not the device. On a shared account, every conversation in your sidebar is equally visible to the other users, and any new chat you start shows up in their list right away.
Three ways to protect yourself
- Keep sensitive topics off shared accounts. ID documents, banking details, company secrets, personal matters — don't type them into a shared account at all. Even if you delete afterward, the content was already visible to anyone logged in at the time.
- Use Temporary Chat. With it on, the conversation never enters the sidebar history, so others simply can't see it. How to enable it is covered in "How do I use Temporary Chat (incognito mode) in ChatGPT?"
- Delete when you're done. For ordinary chats, deleting them right after use shrinks the exposure window. Steps are in "How do I delete my ChatGPT history?"
Two related notes
- It cuts both ways — you can see the other users' conversations too. Delete only your own; never delete someone else's chats. That's a baseline rule of shared accounts.
