Everyone sharing the account sees the full chat history — use Temporary Chat or delete conversations after use for anything private.
Who can see my chats on a shared GPT3.5 account?
On a shared account, your conversations are saved to the account and visible to every other user in the left-hand chat list. Never enter identity, financial, or other sensitive details.
How history sharing works
ChatGPT history follows the account, not the device. A chat you start on your laptop shows up for anyone who signs in on their phone with the same account — and vice versa.
Three ways to protect yourself
1. Use Temporary Chat
- Open ChatGPT and click the model name at the top.
- Toggle on Temporary chat in the menu.
- Conversations in this mode are never saved to history — close the page and they're gone.
2. Delete after use
- Find your conversation in the left-hand list.
- Click the … next to it → Delete → confirm.
- Once deleted, other users can no longer see it.
3. Keep sensitive content out entirely
Never paste into a shared account: real names with ID numbers, bank or credit card details, passwords of any kind, or confidential work documents. For that kind of work, a product tied to your own account (such as Plus Top-Up) is the right choice.
Be considerate of other users too
- Don't delete conversations that aren't yours;
- Don't use Delete all chats or Log out of all devices in settings;
- Don't change account-wide personalization (Custom Instructions, etc.) — it affects everyone.
