【iCloud+】How do I leave the family or switch accounts when my plan ends?
Steps to leave Family Sharing in Settings, what happens to data above the free 5GB (kept but read-only), and how to move the seat to another Apple ID.
How do I leave the family or switch accounts when my plan ends?
Leaving takes a few taps in iPhone Settings. Your data is never deleted, but once you're back on the free 5GB tier, anything above the limit becomes view-only — it stays readable and downloadable, it just stops syncing. So prepare before you leave.
Two things to do first
- Go to Settings → [your name] → "iCloud" → "Manage Account Storage" and note how much you're using.
- If you're over 5GB, save what matters elsewhere first: download from iCloud.com on a computer, or export photos from the Photos app to local storage or another cloud drive.
Leaving the family
- Open Settings → tap your name at the top.
- Tap "Family Sharing" → tap your own name in the member list.
- Tap Leave Family → confirm.
- The iCloud screen will now show your plan back at 5GB.
If your order expires and you haven't left, the organizer removes you instead — the outcome is identical.
What happens to your data
- Everything stays on your Apple ID; nothing is wiped.
- While you're over 5GB: iCloud Photos stops uploading new shots, iPhone auto-backup pauses, and iCloud Drive rejects new files. Existing content remains viewable and downloadable — effectively read-only.
- Syncing resumes automatically once you trim below 5GB, subscribe yourself, or rejoin an iCloud+ family.
Moving the seat to a different Apple ID
- Have the old account leave the family using the steps above.
- Submit the new Apple ID's email on your FoxVIP order page, then accept the fresh invitation.
- Keep in mind: each account is bound by Apple's once-a-year family-switch limit, and the new account's region must match the family too.
