【iCloud+】It says my region doesn't match — what should I do?
Apple requires a member's Apple ID region to be compatible with the family group; here is how to check your region and three ways to fix a mismatch.
It says my region doesn't match — what should I do?
This error means your Apple ID's country/region is not compatible with the family group's region. The most common case: iCloud for mainland China is run separately by GCBD, so a China-region Apple ID can never join an overseas family, and an overseas Apple ID can never join a China-region family. This is a hard Apple rule with no workaround.
First, check your Apple ID region
- Open Settings → tap your name at the top → "Media & Purchases" → "View Account".
- Sign in, then tap "Country/Region" to see where the account is registered.
- You can also sign in at account.apple.com and check under "Personal Information".
Three ways to fix it
- Use another Apple ID in the matching region (recommended). If you already own an account registered in the product's region, submit that account's email on the order page and receive a fresh invitation.
- Change your existing Apple ID's region. You'll need to spend or clear any store balance, cancel all subscriptions, and provide a payment method and billing address for the target region. Warning: moving a primary China-region account affects purchased apps and some mainland services — think twice before doing this to your daily account.
- Ask support to rearrange. Tell FoxVIP support your account's actual region and ask whether a family group in a matching region is available.
Common questions
- My iPhone was bought in Hong Kong — why does it still fail? Only the Apple ID's registered region matters. Where the phone was purchased, your SIM, and your physical location are all irrelevant.
- Can I just create a new overseas Apple ID? Yes, and it can join the family right away — but photos and backups on your original account won't transfer to the new one automatically.
