How do I download Runway videos, and can I use them commercially?

Runway

Click the download icon to save a watermark-free MP4; videos generated on the paid plan carry commercial usage rights and can be upscaled to 4K first.

How do I download Runway videos, and can I use them commercially?

Yes to both. Once a generation finishes, click the download icon on the video (top-right of the player or in the toolbar below it) to save an MP4. Exports on the paid plan are watermark-free and come with commercial usage rights.

Downloading

  1. Open the video from the generation view or from Sessions in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the download icon, pick a resolution, and save the MP4.
  3. Past generations stay in Sessions and Assets, so you can always come back for them.

Resolution and 4K upscaling

  • Gen-3/Gen-4 output natively at roughly 720p-1080p.
  • For sharper delivery, click Upscale to 4K under the video first, wait for the upscale job to finish, then download the 4K version. Upscaling costs extra credits — the exact amount is shown before you confirm.

Commercial use

  • Under Runway's terms, content generated while on a paid plan may be used commercially — ads, short films, client work, and so on. You own the rights to use your outputs.
  • Free-plan outputs are watermarked with limited licensing — that doesn't apply here, since you're on a paid shared account.
  • Two caveats:

1. Anything you upload (images, audio) must be material you're licensed to use — Runway's grant doesn't cover infringing source assets. 2. If a recognizable real person appears in the output, likeness rights are your responsibility to clear.

If something goes wrong

  • Downloaded file won't play: try VLC; if that fails, re-download from Sessions.
  • Can't find an older video: browse Sessions by date. On a shared account, don't delete other members' history — and download your own keepers to local storage in case someone removes them by mistake.
